Additional information
| What is Holter ECG Monitoring? | A Holter monitor, or Ambulatory ECG, is a device that continuously monitors the heart’s rhythm over a prolonged period, and is typically used to diagnose heart conditions which occur intermittently. As such, the longer this heart monitoring device is fitted, the more useful the data becomes, as it is more likely to capture changes in the heart’s rhythm at the time of any symptoms. We now offer the option to deliver your Holter monitor directly to your door, allowing you to fit your monitor in the comfort of your own home – simply post it back to our partners diagnostics laboratory in the pre-paid envelope. Once they have received your monitor, our partner team process the data, perform an analysis, and arrange a follow-up phone call to go through your results at a time that suits you. |
|---|---|
| Which ECG Holter monitor duration should I choose? | For those with very frequent symptoms a 24 hour ECG Holter monitor, 48 hour ECG Holter monitor or 72 hour ECG Holter monitor will be suitable. For those with less frequent symptoms we suggest a longer period of monitoring such as a 7 day ECG Holter monitor or 14 day ECG Holter monitor. |
| I’ve ordered a monitor online. What happens next? | 1. Once you order a monitor, we’ll contact you to arrange delivery (you will usually receive a call within a few hours of purchase, inside office hours). |
| Is the monitor easy to apply? | Yes! Your monitor will arrive with our simple self-fit instructions. You will also be given access to our dedicated Home Heart Check helpline in case you need any extra assistance. |
| Does the monitor need to be worn constantly? | Ideally yes. In order to get the most from your monitor you will need to wear it constantly for your chosen duration. |
| Can I sleep with the monitor on? | Yes! Our streamlined monitors are comfortable to wear while you sleep. In order to get a full picture of your heart’s activity it is important to wear the monitor throughout the day and night for your chosen duration. |
| How long will it take to get my results? | Once your monitor is received back, it will be downloaded and sent for analysis. Once analysed the data is reviewed by our Consultant Cardiologist and a final report is produced. This is then sent to you and your GP, usually by email. (The analysis and reporting process usually takes around 72 hours). |
| What happens if the report shows an abnormality? | A full report detailing the abnormality will be provided to you together with recommendations on any necessary next steps or onward referral requirements. |
